Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 Review: This foldable is everything you need and more

Make Money Online

Samsung was the first smartphone brand to make foldables mainstream — it set the benchmark, perfected the hinge, and made the idea of a folding phone go from sci-fi to everyday reality.

But as Chinese rivals like Oppo, vivo and Honor began closing the gap with sleeker, more affordable alternatives, Samsung’s Z series started to feel… a little dated. With the Galaxy Z Fold7, though, the company is proving that better late than never.

This year’s Fold is slimmer, lighter and more polished than ever. In fact, at 8.9mm when closed and just 4.2mm when open, it’s astonishingly thin — so much so that when folded, it almost feels like a regular slab phone. And that’s perhaps the highest compliment you can pay a foldable.

A Fold that feels “normal” (and that’s the magic)

For the first time, using both the cover and the inner display feels seamless. The 6.5-inch outer screen is wide and bright enough that you don’t feel forced to open the phone for quick tasks — a long-standing pain point with earlier Fold models. Most days, I found myself using the cover display for everything from scrolling through Instagram to snapping photos.

But when you do open it up, you’re treated to a gorgeous 8-inch AMOLED panel that’s brighter (2,600 nits peak), roomier and nearly crease-free. Just having that extra real estate to look at Google Maps, viewing a WhatsApp chat, checking emails, or even running three apps simultaneously feels both overkill and futuristic in equal measure.

At just 215 grams, the Fold7 also happens to be lighter than the iPhone 16 Pro Max and barely heavier than the Galaxy S25 Ultra — an incredible feat considering you’re essentially carrying a tablet that folds in half. Samsung’s engineering here deserves applause; it no longer feels like you’re holding a prototype.

Performance and power

Under the hood, the Fold7 runs on Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chip with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, putting it right up there with Samsung’s flagship S series. It breezes through gaming, multitasking and all the AI-enhanced tricks Samsung has been pushing with One UI 8 (Android 16) — from Google Gemini and Circle to Search to AI editing tools.

Battery life remains a mild sore spot. The 4,400mAh cell offers around a day and a half of typical use, which is respectable but not stellar. Fast charging also tops out at 25 watts, which feels dated in a world of 65W and 100W chargers.

Still, it charges fully in about 90 minutes and doesn’t overheat even during heavy use.

Cameras that mean business

Samsung didn’t compromise here. The 200MP main camera delivers stunning, detail-rich shots — on par with the Galaxy S25 Ultra — accompanied by a 12MP ultrawide and a 10MP telephoto lens. Both the outer and inner selfie cameras are 10MP too, though you can always use the rear cameras for selfies thanks to the cover display.

Samsung’s Generative Edit tool has improved noticeably, erasing photo-bombers and clutter without awkward artifacts. Meanwhile, Audio Eraser smartly reduces background noise in videos, even if it sometimes slightly distorts voices.

The only design quirk? That prominent camera bump. It adds some wobble when placed flat on a surface, but it’s a small price for the quality you get. And you can always get a case to fix that to a certain extent.

Thin yet tough

Despite the weight loss, the Fold7 feels sturdy. It’s protected by Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 on the front and Victus 2 on the back, and Samsung claims the new aluminium hinge is 10% stronger.  I have thrown it in my bag with a million other things like keys, chargers, a laptop, my wallet, and it has come out unscathed even without a case.

That said, unfolding it can be tricky; you’ll need a bit of a nail to pry it open. But the satisfying snap when shutting it closed makes up for it.

The verdict

At ₹1,74,999 ($2,000), the Galaxy Z Fold7 is anything but cheap. It’s still a luxury gadget — one that few people truly need, but many will want. Yet this year’s model finally nails the basics: it’s thin, powerful, premium, and — most importantly — practical.

Samsung may have dropped S Pen support, but 90% of users won’t miss it. And now that the Fold7 feels as capable as a flagship slab phone, it can give even the Galaxy S25 Ultra — and next year’s S26 Ultra — a run for their money.

The Galaxy Z Fold7 isn’t just Samsung’s best foldable yet; it’s the moment the foldable phone stopped feeling like a futuristic concept and started feeling like the future of smartphones.
